This Pandora bracelet marks milestones on my current weight loss journey: clock for "it’s time", owl for wise decision, tennis shoe for exercise, queen bee ("Never underestimate the power of a woman") and inner strength bead, present (gift to myself), Christmas tree (reminder of the pictures that started me off). Left to add: scissors for surgery, and a butterfly.

I’ve been halfheartedly trying to lose weight for weeks to no avail. So I signed up for Katydiddys’ Weight Loss Wednesdays to see if having challenges and a partner for support will help. Hope so! This is part of week one’s challenge – a visual food diary. Blogged here.

Breakfast:
Hot apple cider
The last crumbs in the pretzel bag

Lunch:
Dr. Pepper
Everything bagel

Snack:
Kettle corn from the farmer’s market – a lot of it.

Supper:
Dr. Pepper
Chicken and farmer’s market potatoes, peppers & onions.

Snack:
Munched all night on pretzels and chex mix – not the best choice…

Is it any wonder that I need to lose some weight? I have a serious snack (and carb) problem, it seems!

Question by Jenny S: How to convince recruiters about a career change to Corporate Finance?

I am an Industrial engineer and want to make a move to Corporate Finance, one of the questions I get most often is why do I want to make such a career change and how I see myself fit into this role ? or justify how you can do well in Corporate Finance role despite your non finance background?
I am currently enrolled in a full time MBA program and planning to take finance courses but I want to know how I can really sell myself on this idea ?

You need to find a hiring manager that will take a chance on you. Avoid head hunters or recruiters. They are looking for easy, no-brainer, matches. They are usually a step up from used car salesmen in my opinion.

You may need to take a cut in pay to make this happen. I made a career change in IT from one technology to another and I was able to find a manager that took a chance on me, but I had to take a 20% cut in pay. At the time, I had no mortgage or kids and I was able to do it without it seriously impacting my lifestyle.

Question by JaL: What are my options to finance a foreclosure when the home will not appraise for the value they are asking?

They are only asking ,000. The house sits on 4.6 acres so can you finance the land and just have the house as a bonus. What are some finance options I could try?

Question by Jazz: What are some weight loss tips and ways to appear thinner?

I am a teenager with a problem and I need help so please help me… I’m  desperate. I have Lupus and when it flares up I have to take prednisone which causes weight gain. I want a higher self esteem. Please, can someone give me some weight loss tips like high calorie burning excersices, health food, some sort of plan and also tips to appear thinner. Thanks!

The pattern for losing weight is not difficult – eat less food and workout more – the issues surface when we actually try to put that into practice! There are loads of temptations in the big wide world aren’t there?! I learned some excellent advice by reading the site in the box below, they have loads of tips, I shed 10 pounds by following their techniques.

The Michigan Senate Finance committee Thusday, Nov. 4, 2010 took testimony on a package of bills that the League has been pushing for a couple of years. The League’s Summer Minnick, Director of State Affairs for the League, testified along with Shea Charles, City Manager of Howell and Chair of the League’s Municipal Finance committee as well as Beach Hall, Mayor of Rogers City on the importance of these bills. The bills, HBs 5550 – 5554 would, generally speaking, allow local communities the opportunity to refinance existing non-voted debt in order to better handle challenging fiscal times. Many communties have expressed an interest in these bills and the committee hearing is a great step forward in this process. The bills have already passed the House. There was a substitute adopted that made minor changes to the approval process and we now are optimistic that the bills will be passed at the next Senate Finance committee next week. This is one of the League’s lame duck priorities and we are hopeful we can get the legislature to provide some tools for struggling municipalities before the end of this session! A female diner was rolled out of Las Vegas themed restaurant The Heart Attack Grill on a stretcher after she collapsed.

The woman had been eating a double bypass burger, smoking cigarettes and drinking a margarita shortly before she was fell to the floor unconscious and had to be wheeled out by paramedics.

It was the second medical emergency at the restaurant which glorifies unhealthy eating and offers free meals to people over 350 pounds. Its menu includes items such as flatliner fries and butterfat shakes

The restaurant chain – founded in 2005 using the catchphrase ‘Taste Worth Dying For!’ – is run by a former nutritionist ‘Doctor’ Jon Basso who, remarkably, used to run a Jenny Craig weight loss diet centre.

Meals can exceed 8,000 calories. The recommended daily intake is 2,000 calories for women and 2,500 for men.

The Triple Bypass Burger contains three slabs of meat, 12 rashes of bacon, cheese, red onion, sliced tomato and the Heart Attack Grill’s own ‘unique special sauce’.

And that’s before taking into account the accompanying ‘Flatliner Fries’, cooked in pure lard, and a giant soft drink.

How can these bottles of bubbly represent weight loss? Easy, this is the amount of weight I have lost in the last 9 weeks. I didn’t have anything like blocks of lard that the TV shows tend to use to represent it. Eating steamed vegetables (see pic of what I had for breakfast) for every meal has side benefits.

it might, only MIGHT be a good option for recruiting people… but apart from that, social media tends to be a passive media for these kind of battles
